What nursing means to me
As nurses, we wield so much power. The power to heal, lift up, strengthen and inspire. I first witnessed this as a young boy. I developed tonsillitis and needed surgery when I was five years old. I remember the thought of visiting the hospital for an operation filled me with dread. I had never been separated from my parents, and it was terrifying.   I remember bursting into tears before the procedure. My nurse held me, consoled me, and told me everything was going to be okay. She looked into my eyes and told me she would help me. She assured me I would feel much better after the procedure, and reminded me I was strong. That moment would impact my entire life.
