RNAO member Navisha Weerasinghe, a clinical operations manager at Georgetown Hospital, says she has worked hard to advocate for a more inclusive and empowering environment for women working in health care. “Strong female representation in health care is essential for ensuring diverse perspectives in patient care, research and policy,” she says. “Working in health care can be demanding, but when we mentor, support and celebrate each other’s successes, we create a stronger, more inclusive workplace.”
Weerasinghe’s mother, a registered nurse in Sri Lanka, is her biggest inspiration. It was her mother who urged her to become a nurse and taught her to advocate for mentorship for women. “My mom showed me what it truly means to care for others…She taught me that there are no limits to what I can achieve,” Weerasinghe recalls.
