Diving into digital

This issue of the journal is the first of three that will invite you to contribute insight (beginning in February) that will influence the evolution of RNAO’s flagship publication. As we finish up our series celebrating 30 years of the print edition, it’s fitting that we also reveal the new vision for our digital edition – branded RNJ – online.

For many months now, the communications team has been working side-by-side with the IT team to build a website that will bring you everything you love about the magazine – at your fingertips. The association’s assembly (board members, chapter presidents and interest group chairs) have had a sneak peak at the new digital edition, and it will be your turn this coming February to browse and help us build on what we hope will become one of your go-to favourites for the same compelling and timely stories you have come to expect from us.

This transition is in line with a broad movement to digital publishing across many industries, including health, and we hope you embrace the change and all the benefits it will bring, including instant, 24/7 access to your current issue, as well as back issues with the articles, columns and news you enjoy reading.

If there’s one person who understands the benefits of technological change and a shifting mindset to all things digital, it’s Richard Booth, the subject of our RN profile in this issue. As a teenager, his parents thought he might be wasting his time online and immersed in a video game culture, but that is what led him to the unique nursing role he enjoys today. He puts it quite simply: he’s paid to play, and he loves it.

We encourage you to open your mind to this vision for the future of nursing, and also RNAO’s vision for the future of RNJ online. Watch for your chance to get involved in the new year.
