Feeling proud

As we bring you new content for RNJ, we also mark the start of a new membership year at RNAO. The fall is always an exciting time at home office, with all staff on deck to renew existing members and welcome new ones. We are pleased to share that 43,408 RNs, NPs and nursing students are members of RNAO, a number that is up from 42,056 at this time last year (a three per cent increase).

Members have many reasons to feel proud of their professional association, and we bring you some of those reasons here.

In our BPG corner, we highlight two international events at which RNAO’s best practice guidelines (BPG) and Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) work drew tremendous attention and praise for its impact on nursing the world over. Representatives from RNAO and from BPSOs around the globe were in Calgary and Singapore to share their experiences with, and pride in, RNAO’s evidence-based practice program.

Closer to home, and in the lead-up to a federal election this fall, RNAO members had an impact on the political landscape as candidates, panelists and planning committee members for local forums and events that raised awareness of health, health care, social and environmental issues that affect people’s well-being in Ontario. Check out our election coverage here

And, each year at this time, RNJ brings readers a feature story that celebrates membership, and recognizes the truly unique and exceptional nurses and nursing students who bring this association to life. This year, we focus on academic and clinical educators who inspire their students to become RNAO members to take advantage of everything it has to offer. These are proud RNAO members who don’t want to see tomorrow’s nurses miss out on the opportunities they had as students. And they are an important influence on the next generation of RNs and NPs.

We hope these and our other stories now available online will stir feelings of pride in you, and prompt you to power others to join as well.
