On May 13, RNAO’s Sudbury Chapter attended a proclamation from Mayor Paul Lefebvre to declare National Nursing Week in Greater Sudbury. “This week we come together as a community to celebrate the extraordinary knowledge, skills and compassion of registered nurses, nurse practitioners, registered practical nurses and nursing students,” says Dr. Paul-André Gauthier (right), the chapter’s social media executive network officer. This event was one of many Nursing Week celebrations across Ontario during the week of May 12-18, 2025 (read more about other RNAO- and member-led activities in our Nursing Week 2025 coverage). Sudbury Chapter president Michael Roach (third from right) used the opportunity with local politicians to raise the issue of staffing ratios. “We’ve seen a real decrease in the number of nurses in our community…A lack of nurses means a lack of people to cover shifts. So, lots of overtime, lots of extra work…we need more nurses.” (Sudbury.com, May 15, CTV News, May 13)
